Wellington's most iconic pub.
Two award-winning Celtic musicians combined with subtle grace and sharp wit – Gillian Boucher & Bob McNeill are a touch of magic and a musical force to be reckoned with. Based in New Zealand, both Gillian, an exceptional fiddler originally from Cape Breton Island, and Bob, an award-winning guitarist, singer & songwriter from Scotland, share a deeply seeded passion for their musical heritage and culture.
Gillian’s fiddle style is unique, seamlessly blending the music of her ancestors with contemporary sounds. Paired with Bob’s innovative, rhythmic accompaniment and powerful lyricism, they present a truly dynamic yet sensitive acoustic conversation that captivates any audience.

Upstairs at The Thistle you will find a new selection of stunning Ans Westra photographs on display.
Westra is best known as a documentary photographer. A year after arriving in New Zealand she found work in various Wellington photographic studios. In a few short years she was to commence on her life-long photographic journey documenting the lives and cultures of New Zealanders during a period of cultural, social and generational change. Westra has continued to work and travel extensively, and exhibit widely. While pursuing her documentary work, more recently she has started photographing the landscape. These recent images use colour to express her concern for New Zealand's destiny, “an island exploited by various waves of settlement. Westra was awarded the Companion of the Order of New Zealand Merit (CNZM) for services to photography in 1998, and she received an Arts Foundation Icon Award in 2007.
